Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are economically disadvantaged sixth graders who are excited to learn. They participate daily in cooperative group and GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) activities with an emphasis on Kagan strategies. Students work collaboratively in teams to create posters, charts, or diagrams. They love learning and are highly motivated to be successful.

My students don't often have access to the materials they need for successful learning.

Their families are generally migrant farm workers and often struggle to make ends meet.

My Project

My students struggle getting motivated to read. Many of them just need a comfortable, quiet space to be able to enjoy reading. Our classroom library recently got a bit of an upgrade. With this project, I'm hoping to create a quiet reading nook that includes a fun carpet, comfy floor chairs, new bookshelves, and a new library labeling system.

With this reading nook, my students will be able to select a book based on their interests, relax, and simply enjoy reading.

Once my students learn that reading can be fun, I'm hopeful that they will become lifelong readers!
