This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach English as a second language for a public school system. The school I work at is 100% free lunch. The students I work with are mainly from El Salvador. Some of them are separated from their families, and the rest who live with their families have very limited resources, but they love to learn and they are very appreciative of anything we give them at school (it could be something as simple as a sticker). Their families are hard labor workers, and they work very long hours. But they do want the best for their kids and are also very appreciative of what we do with the kids at school.
I am also an immigrant to this country as well.
English is also my second language and that's how I connect to my students.
My Project
My students will perform better if their fidgety habits are addressed. Students need help at staying focused. The sensory toys will help students stay on task.
The fidgety gadgets will help students concentrate on the task they are assigned and will help them complete it.
Our classroom is small and students sit close to each other. We spent an hour together on daily bases. The fidgety gadgets will lengthen students' stamina in reading and in writing. Students need to keep one hand busy while the other hand is working.
I bought thinking putty and I realize now I need more gadgets on hand such as stress ball, stretchy string, fidget chain, liquid motion timer...
