Paint is so inspirational. Students just see the high gloss wet substance and get inspired to create. Paint provides a brief escape for my students. I teach Art, grades 7-12, at a very needy school. We make the most of our materials and stretch them as far as they will go. Right now we are adding acrylic medium to every jar to spend the last drops from our paint inventory.
Our economy and gas situation has taken it's tole on our classroom this year. Students have not been able to pay the art fee, therefore we have not been able to purchase paint like we have in past years. The parents of these students are stretching their money to make ends meet. It burdens my heart to think that I can't give them what they need in my class. We are all suffering from today's economy.
Donors Choose puts a smile on my face when I describe this awesome resource to others. Through them, you have an opportunity to provide these kids with the supplies that they need to succeed. I have seniors that want to paint murals and produce work for portfolio reviews they need to apply for scholarships. There are juniors and sophomores that are just beginning to work and be college hopefuls. Cheerleaders at my school paint t-shirts, signs, and props to promote school pride. Younger students are given opportunities to paint through classroom projects. None of this will be possible this year without your help.
