Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are first and second graders in a special day class. We don't really focus on their "label" but on what they are ABLE to do, and build from there. I allow my kids to take charge of their learning and vote on what the months theme will be. We have learned about bears, sharks, volcanoes and insects.
I have built and fostered an environment where new and past students can feel safe and loved.
We do have students that come from homeless shelters, programs, single family homes, farm-worker parents and foster care. Although they have many obstacles in their lives, a barrier to receiving a proper education is not one of them.
My Project
Last year, half of my class got the flu as well as myself, my aide and other service providers that worked in my class.
I am trying to maintain a healthy classroom for my kids as well for the adults that work in our classroom.
We need the clorax wipes for quick clean ups throughout our day. As well as Kleenex for our little noses during the cold and allergies season. The lysol will be used for surfaces around our classroom that are touched daily (door knob, hall pass, water faucet handle, etc) and the spray cleaner will be for the end of the day. I plan on having my kids clean the classroom as part of our end of the day routine because at the end of the day, this isn't just my classroom it's OUR classroom.
