My students are energetic, kind, and love to succeed. They are eager to learn and develop their talents. The students range from fifth to ninth grade. It is very rewarding seeing the progress that is made through those years.
My students come from diverse backgrounds, and they work together and support each other with their differences.
This sense of community is one of the great strengths of our school.
Despite each students' challenges, I believe every one of them can be successful if they have the tools they need to succeed.
My Project
We are slowly building our percussion equipment at our school. The percussion section is a very important part of the band and full orchestra. Even the percussion section can stand alone as a music ensemble, it adds energy and nuance to the entire ensemble.
There are many times that a piece asks for a specific instrument to be used, and we don't have it.
Having various percussion instruments like temple blocks, a cabasa, and a bell tree help my students recognize and experience a true percussion experience.
These items will help better prepare my students for high school, where they will be expected to already know how to identify and play these various instruments.
