Our school prides itself on cultural diversity, which creates a dynamic learning environment. My students are curious by nature and they engage in challenges which make them think! They enjoy making discoveries through collaborative learning experiences.
My classroom is a place for children to discover the impact that literacy makes on their lives as a contributing member of this society.
My hope is that each student will find a connection between literacy and their personal well being.
We engage in hands on activities with coding, robotics, maker projects, and of course... books! Reading expands our opportunities as learners.
My Project
My ultimate goal is engaging learners. We hope to increase the number of girls who are interested in coding and robotics. We have two FIRST FLL teams at our elementary school & we would love to continue to grow interest in the FLL Jr and FLL teams. We are also encouraging more girls to get involved.
Through increased exposure to the LEGO coding software, students practice thinking through the cause and effect relationships with little robots.
When a student is able to imagine, build and drive a robot through a code, which she creates, this girl is unstoppable! Using WE DO 2.0 , students create a code, which will in turn drive the little motors, engage the little sensors, and activate noises. Now, we're raising the bar for what students are able to do with coding in the classroom.
This project will allow students to bring their computer programming and coding to a higher level. Coding on the screen and programming graphics is one of the first steps we use within the Hour of Code and other online coding resources.
Implementing the LEGO We DO 2.0 into classroom projects will allow for more students to have exposure and create a basic understanding for coding & robotics. I hope to spark and interest which will accelerate their curiosity and motivate students to join our FIRST teams.
