This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students arrive at school every day with a love for learning. My students with disabilities are unable to communicate their feelings with others most of the time.
I teach at a Title I public elementary school in Texas where over 80% of our students are economically disadvantaged.
Several of my students receive backpack food for the weekend. In order to have success in school and in their future careers, my students need the tools to communicate their feelings and information to their peers and teachers.
My Project
My students need bookshelves and Kindle Fires to reach their literacy goals. My students love our Reading Circle and centers, and they love to be read to by their peers and teachers. However, on an individual level, my students struggle to read at grade-level. In our classroom, we have a lot of books, but unfortunately, we do not have any bookcases to put them on.
Your generous donation to our project will help our classroom to make important gains in the area of literacy.
By having access to our very own bookshelves, our students will be able to have books readily available to them. With these book cases, our class would have the tools necessary to build a library of our very own! In addition, the donations given towards our project for the Amazon Kindles will allow our students to have greater access to our school district's reading program, SmartyAnts. These Kindles will play an invaluable role in aiding our students to memorize their letters and sight words better, as well as improving reading comprehension.
