My students need two CTL 11.6" Chromebooks for our Math and Science Center.

"Ready to learn?" is what I always ask my 2nd grade students every day. They always answer with a resounding "Yes, Ms. Elk!" as they enter my class.
My school has a high number of students who are first-generation immigrants from Haiti and we have started welcoming students from islands affected by Hurricane Maria.
Many of them come from homes that were affected by hurricanes, and as a result, basic amenities that they need to prosper are not readily available to them.
Even though we have to adapt to such a diverse range of learning needs, we strongly believe that all children will learn if given the right tools and technology. As their 2nd grade teacher, my main objective is to enhance and improve their young learning experiences and learning environment.
As mentioned before, most of my students are high-poverty and have limited technology at home. For most of our students, Internet access and the use of computers are a luxury they do not have at home.
After the hurricanes, the financial situation for most of our students became even worse and they are still facing the challenges of coming to school with basic supplies.
As we are embarking to be designated officially a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) school, technology has now infiltrated every aspect of how our classes are taught. After Hurricane Irma struck, most students came back with fewer supplies and less access to the tools they need to be successful. Even with limited resources, using technology in my classroom has proved to be quite a success as the students learn quickly, discover and enjoy every lesson while developing scientific exploration, analytical and critical math skills.
I am requesting two Chromebooks, which will be used for STEAM activities. My students now need to experience actually utilizing technology on a personal "one on one" basis, to enhance their language skills as well as computer skills. Currently, my classroom is very limited in terms of technology/computers. In fact, there is only a teacher's workstation and four outdated computers in my classroom. We are aiming to become a STEAM school in the upcoming school year and having our students get direct access to technology will prepare them.
