My students are really becoming artists. They are thinking of projects to complete and the 5th grade students are challenging themselves to create a large installation for the end of the year Art Show. The budget for our art program has been severely cut.
The students in this district are from a small rural community.
My students are very resourceful and have already begun collecting found objects and recyclable objects to help supplement the budget. They amaze me with their creativity and problem solving skills!
My Project
If we are able to receive these painting resources for our classroom the students will be able to complete their artistic vision without skimping. Students use paint to create shapes, lines and colors to evoke an emotion from their viewers. Art History cannot be studied without using paintings as examples. The Art room may be the only time these students are able to work with this material. Paint is a basic supply that is used for several techniques and by every student in every grade. We need all 12 colors of paints by the pint and gallon so that everyone can learn to express themselves.
My Art program is still young and only after two years the students have responded positively to the challenges they have faced.
They are no longer producing "projects" such as bunnies, Santa, and turkeys and have really begun to find their artistic voices. Please help me provide them with the basics they need to share their unique ideas with their school, parents, and community members.
