I teach 6th grade ELA at a K - 8 school in Arizona. Our population is a high concentration of middle-class, hard working families, students with special needs, and second language learners. Our student population has a diverse community of cultures, academic needs, and special education students. We have a proactive staff and community that work collaboratively in meeting the needs of all of our students.
My students are active learners that are learning to LOVE to Read.
Learning the love of reading is the ideal way to improve reading ability.
We have been reading The Giver in class and the kids are really enjoying the book. This is the first of four books. The students have been begging me to have the opportunity to read the next three books. I have a few of each book, but would really like to have a class set to allow all students to read.
They have such a love of reading and I want to let them fly with it.
I am asking for 20 more of each of the next books. These include the book titles are Gathering Blue, Messenger, and Son by Lois Lowery. We will then read them and have discussion groups to practice speaking and listening skills.
