Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a magnet high school where the students have decided to focus on their learning in specialized schools of Fashion, Engineering, Business, and Digital Media. We are a designated Title 1 school with 81% classified as disadvantaged, but for the most part, the students have faced this challenge and have prepared themselves to be ready for a productive future. Our graduation rate of 90.5% beats the district and state averages and almost 60% of our students complete the requirements to attend a UC/CSU school.
I am currently restarting the art program of the school after the retirement of the last art teacher and I am looking for some capital improvements that can have some long-term effects on the school's art program.
My Project
My school does all it can to provide the basics for learning. However, in order to complete excellent art projects we need high quality materials. Specifically, i am looking for drawing pencils of differing hardness for sketching and shading, good paper for drawing, and fixative for protecting the drawings. In addition, there are some print making materials as I have some advanced students who are looking for new challenges.
This project will enable my students to shine by giving them the proper tools and materials.
We plan on doing portraits and landscapes for this upcoming semester and your donation will go far. We have made great strides on learning how to draw contours, but the big step in realistic pictures is the shading. Good pencils and paper is REQUIRED for this work and YOU will be helping them get there.
