Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are a burst of energy and are super creative! They are predominately African American with 99% of them receiving free or reduced school meals. Our school is located in a high poverty neighborhood in Washington, DC and many of our students live in the nearby housing projects and foster homes.

Nevertheless, our children are excited about learning and they come to school every day with hope, expectation and enthusiasm learning and enjoy making music.

The joy of music is prevalent throughout the building.

My Project

Our entire school community is excited about the spring musical. Each class has a role in the production and the students have worked etremely hard this semester to make it all come together.

Microphones are a necessity because their voices need to be heard.

As much as we are practicing voice projection, we are being extra careful for our students not to strain their voices.

The great thing about having our own microphones is that we will be able to take these along with us to perform at other locations and stages. It will give all of our actors a chance to be heard.

This will enhance our performance during rehearsals and on the concert stage as well.
