I have a curious, bright, and energetic group of 2nd graders. All of my students are fun, silly, and make me laugh every single day. They are patient and extremely forgiving with one another. I often teach them social skills and it's so rewarding to see them interact positively with each other. They are constantly helping each other and they love to be challenged! They cheer each other on when someone does well and they have each other's backs. I want to make school an enjoyable and exciting place for them because they deserve that.
My Project
When my kids are not using flexible seating, I usually will find my students standing at their desk, squatting on their desk chairs, or sitting on their knees on their desk chair, all while working independently. My students are thriving with the flexible seating options they already have! I want to give them a few more options of the flexible seating that I think they benefit from the most.
It is obvious that a standard desk chair is uncomfortable for them and causes them to lose focus.
They are wiggly and need to change their position often when they sit. Flexible seating allows them to choose a special seating option during certain times of the day (centers, partner/group activities, independent work time), and that alone is so exciting for them!
These additional flexible seating options include: wobble cushions, a larger yoga ball, and a lap desk tray. These kiddos are so much more focused when they have the freedom to choose where they sit, and it doesn't hurt that the choices are FUN for them!
