Despite a community with over 50% low-income families, our kids are ready, willing, and able to face any challenge and love to demonstrate their learning through their work every day.
With our new Montessori program, my classroom and outdoor learning environment will inspire students to explore, create, discover, and develop a life-long love of learning.
By focusing on the whole child with the adult serving as a guide to their learning, my kids are able to dive deeply into those areas that they want to study. Then by following their lead, I can integrate their lessons with materials they're excited about and use those subjects as the basis of everything from reading, to writing, to math, and science. Each child has a learning path all their own. And they love it! (And so do I.)
My Project
As a Montessori classroom, we're blessed by having a space outside our classroom to use as an outdoor learning environment. Additionally, our curriculum allows us to integrate environmental studies into all aspects of our learning including science, social studies, reading and language arts, and even math.
Unfortunately, our outdoor space is surrounded by concrete and brick walls, so we need living trees to help us incorporate nature into our environment as we learn about and care for the plants and animals which are also a part of our world.
Trees are so important to our planet and my students will learn to appreciate their benefits and importance as we read and do research into all aspects of arboreal and environmental science.
In our classroom we will have Earth Day and Arbor Day EVERY DAY!
