"You are the meanest teachers that I love." This quote may seem odd to most people, but as a special education teacher I consider this one of the best compliments I have ever received. I know that working with students with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities probably is not the first choice of many teachers, but I would not change my job for any reason. I work in a school where all students receive special services to get the attention they need to maximize their potential and achieve their goals.
My Project
Students with behavioral challenges (EBD, ADHD, etc.) need the ability to move around. This flexible seating will allow them to wiggle and wobble in a safe way that will provide minimal distractions to the class. Increasing movement in this way will help my students become more focused and productive. Due to Hurricane Michael we need all the help we can get in this area. Donations for my project will not only increase academic achievement, but also decrease behavior issues on a daily basis. By allowing the students to be more active I expect to increase their academic stamina and decrease behavioral challenges.
