Every year, I have the exciting job of teaching energetic and eager kindergartners. Each student comes with a different background and different needs, but no matter the student, they all come ready to explore, move, and learn!
I get to help make their first experience at school great!
Our school serves approximately one-third of our students free or reduced-price meals each day. It is important that I find ways to spark the engagement of 5 and 6-year-olds to reach their diverse learning styles while meeting curricular requirements and social emotional needs. It continues to amaze me that our kinder-kids absorb and do so much when they put their minds to work!
My Project
Kindergarten students love hearing a good book and then retelling their favorite stories to others. Sometimes they leave out important details though. This is where this project comes in!
Help us retell some of our favorite picture book stories throughout the school year with tangible, velcro pieces that we can move and not miss a single detail!
With Illinois standards for learning in kindergarten, my students are expected to retell familiar stories having a beginning, middle, and end. This can be challenging! Having a board to move story pieces around will help my students have a better understanding of important details to include in their retell, as well as have their active hands busy. I know this would help so many of my learners work together and learn how to retell stories!
