The students in my classroom come from a variety of economic and cultural backgrounds. My students are on the autism spectrum and each face their own challenges, however, they each have their own strengths and abilities! My students are 3 and 4 years old and for many, this is their first school experience! They have to cope with separation anxiety, learn the routine of school and the structure of the day. They require visual supports to get them through their school day.
My students are creative, enthusiastic, and strong!
They love to move, listen to stories, sing songs, and love lots of positive attention! We learn during small and large group time. We also have a great deal of individual one on one learning! I focus on each child's individual potential each day. They are all so different and unique!
My Project
My students and I have been learning to navigate this new normal! My students come to school every other week. On alternate weeks, they are participating in remote instruction. We are using Google Classroom as our platform; however, the majority of families do not have printers so they are unable to complete activities on paper. I have been making activity packets to go home with them when they are in school to complete the following week when they are home. At this time, our school has gone fully remote. I need ink to print packets to send to each child’s home.
I am doing everything I can to make sure my students don’t regress.
Their families not having the ability to print should not prevent them from completing activities needed to address their IEP goals (including literacy, math, fine motor/writing etc). I would like to make each family visual supports that we use in school so they can implement them at home.
My project also consists of file folders. My last Donors Choose project was for filing cabinets to keep the children’s work safe and organized. I am requesting file folders to assist with organization of each child’s work. The file folders will also be used to create file folder games and activities.
