This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Being an Early Intervention Preschool Teacher for Pittsburgh Public Schools is such a rewarding job. I have been working with children who have disabilities since 1998. The children in our classroom are ages three, four and five. It's our job to provide each one of our students with a postive and developmenatlly apporpriate preschool experience.
Every day our students come to school filled with energy and they are always ready to learn!
It's always exciting when we help each one of our students learn how to achieve the skills they need as they prepare to go to kindergarten one day! It's the moments when one of our studetns may say their first word at school or learn how to share materials and help a friend. The smallest accomplishment can make our entire day. Showing our children that they can learn how to do anything they put their minds to brings the biggest smile to our faces! Practice always makes perfect in our classroom no matter how many tries it takes.
My Project
If our project is funded, we will be able to provide our preschool students with a variety of hands-on sensory materials for exploration in our light and sand tables. These awesome toys will be used daily in order to support our children's ability to learn, explore and grow. If you donate to our project you will be helping our children every day they come to school!
Tactile materials like kinetic sand, water beads, modeling dough and more will help small learners gain huge self-regulation skills!
Having calm, sensory experiences available to our children assures that they will be able to have alternative opportunities to explore other activities when they are upset, frustrated and unable to calm down when overstimulated. Self-regulation skills are so important to our students especially when they are dealing with a lot of big feelings and are not able to communicate verbally. Sometimes all we need is a sensory break so that we can regroup, take a deep breath and know that everything is going to be alright!
