Mrs. Castelli from Philadelphia PA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 10 listening headsets that can block out sound during intervention groups, and 4 tablets to expose them to different forms of technology.

"Every student can learn, just not on the same day, or in the same way."--George Evans Our time together, due to time constraints and class size, is a constant tug of war between maintaining attention and effectively reaching the students that need the most attention.
I am a Special Education teacher that teaches in a low-income, neighborhood, charter school.
My first grade students are the most hard working, smart, and spirited students that deserve all of the educational supports that we can provide for them. We have several pull-outs a day but the closest resource room is not conducive to a rigorous schedule for students that need a lot more structure than most. Our students are eager to learn but struggle in small groups to compete with noise level and minor distractions that most people could ignore. They have made such great strides in reading levels and in some cases, at a greater rate of growth than the "general" education students in the class. We are getting to the point where small group instruction is becoming frustrating to teachers and students, particularly those with noise sensitivities. Our students need a system/technology that can support them in accessing the general education curriculum more effectively.
The resources that I am requesting can/will be used at least 4-5 times in a day. Because it is an inclusion class, we have many literacy and math Intervention groups throughout the day and the headsets and tablets will provide extra supports and enhancement to the general education curriculum. With the headphones specifically, we will be able to communicate with each other in small group and the students will not be distracted from classroom noise or other groups. I will be able to access the curriculum, songs, games, etc., via the four tablets, that can supplement the curriculum. Most importantly, students will be exposed to new forms of technology that will increase their engagement and enthusiasm for learning. These tablets can help my students reach their potential because it allows them to capitalize on their strengths and bypass areas of difficulty that they face on a daily basis. Students will be able to better learn foundational skills related to reading and writing fluently.
Any donations will get my students that much closer to their end of the year goals in reading and math.
It will help boost moral and enthusiasm for learning, as well as decrease frustration. My students are at the point where they can catch up or at least get closer being on grade level in particularly reading. Having these tablets can increase my student's self-reliance and sense of independence!
