My Students

My students attend a Pre-K through fifth grade elementary school in the New Orleans area. They are a unique and exceptional group of students. They all have characteristics of Autism. Each student has his or her own unique set of challenges. Such challenges include difficulties with academics, attention, verbal, social, and motor skills. However, they are all hard working students who work each day to reach their full potential. They are a pleasure to work with and continue to make great progress.

My Project

Touch screen devices, such as iPads, would allow my students with motor issues to independently access the curriculum. Our curriculum is designed to be interactive. The curriculum has audio. Students are able touch and click to have materials read. They also touch and click answer choices and other selections as they advance through the activities. However, if a student is unable to use a mouse or type on a keyboard, the curriculum becomes difficult to access without the assistance of the teacher or the paraprofessional. Ipads would encourage student interaction and engagement for my students who are not traditional learners.
