Our elementary school consists of about 275 students who range from kindergarten-4th grade. Over 65% of our students receive free and reduced lunch assistance. We have been working very hard on our reading program and we want to shift our focus to Math to ensure our students are building a strong foundation in math and reading.
Our students are willing to work hard and these tools will support their conceptual understanding and deepen their number sense.
We want to see the most success we can from them, and with our teacher training and these tools we can get our students to gain higher levels of achievement.
My Project
We have been working hard on building the foundation of mathematics in our students to better support them in the future. We know it is important to build on the concrete learning in order to have true understanding of the concepts and this is especially important for the economically disadvantaged students that we serve. We are hoping to obtain these math counting racks that will benefit all grades and concepts in the elementary building.
When students work with hands-on tools it helps increase the overall achievement in math concepts.
These racks will be specifically used to help aide in their understanding of counting principals, mental math calculations, and recognizing patterns in our number system. The class sets of counting racks will be utilized by the younger students in grades K-2 and the larger, single racks will be used as a teaching aide in the 2-4 grade level classrooms. All classrooms will be able to utilize the tools throughout the year and maximize student growth for general classroom use and for intervention learning times.
Thank you in advance for your support of our students and their achievements!
