This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 4-5 years old, and they have endless energy and enthusiasm for learning. The school is a neighborhood school, so the students live in the urban neighborhood. Many students walk to school and have siblings in older grades.
Many of the students are growing up in poverty with limited resources at home, and my goal is to do my best to provide rich environment and experience at school.
I want to give the children every tool they are going to need to be successful in the coming years.
My Project
My students love to pretend and to prepare food in the kitchen area. The favorite things to make are cakes, cookies, and donuts, it's time to bring more healthy foods into the play and hopefully their lives!
The play food will help give the children experiences with healthy foods and help them learn how to prepare a healthy meal.
The food bundles contain a variety of healthy foods that can be prepared for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The appliances can be used to help make things such as fruit smoothies.
Although the children are still young, and probably not making their own food at home, giving them the experiences with different types of healthy foods will hopefully help them be more willing to try different foods and make healthier choices. Lastly the Clorox wipes are to help keep the new materials clean (there are always a few that try eat the play food!).
