This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live in an extremely impoverished area of Detroit. 85% of students are immigrants. Some of them have never been to school. Although they have many hardships/challenges they come to school.
My students do not have the experiences that many other kids of their ages in other suburban districts have.
They need many different learning experiences in school as they do not have those opportunities at home. Despite all of the economic and social barriers, they arrive at school every day with the expectation to learn.
My Project
These materials will help my students to connect with other learners of the same age and learn to work together. These educational tools will enhance their learning by giving them hands on materials. Most of my bilingual students do not have educational support at home.
These resources will engage them in collaborative learning.
Research shows that kids of all ages learn better with cooperative learning. I will use these resources to build centers where students can work in groups as well as independently. I would like to give ample of opportunities to my students to take advantages of additional resources and become successful readers.
