Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We love to dance. We love to sing. But when we have to hunt through Cd's, it becomes a frustrating thing!
My students are wonderful, amazing human beings.
They are in Pre-K. Cute four and five year old kids. They are just starting on their educational journeys. I have 2 classes with 16 students in each class. Each group attends for 2 1/2 hours daily. Breakfast is provided for the AM students and the PM class eats lunch at school. Our program is through Title 1 and is part of a public elementary school.
My Project
Music is such an essential part of what we do in Pre-K! We dance and sing daily. We often perform for and with other classes/grade levels. I have so many songs on Cd's. I love to take their requests. It's just so difficult to find the specific songs they are asking for. Not only would an IPod and docking station help us dance to the beat of each of the students, it will also save so much space. We can use that space for additional educational experiences.
Music ties so well to so many other educational endeavors.
Song and dance help students with language development, following directions, sequencing, and memory skills to mention a few. I've also seen how wonderfully it builds self-esteem. That carries over to everything else they encounter. Another amazing quality of music, is it's ability to effect mood. I try to introduce the students to a variety of genres throughout their day.
