Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is an inner-city, low socioeconomic classroom. All of my students receive free lunch and breakfast. I teach STEM, science, computer coding, and recently became a Robotics Coach! This will help us close the gap and they are so excited to learn more and do more in this field of study!

My Project

My competitive robotics team of all girls has inspired me and others as they have overcome as underdogs and embraced the world and challenges of coding and robotics. Our team is called the Techy Tigerettes and it is their first year in a competitive robotics team as it is mine coaching. We had so much to learn and overcome! I wanted to quit at times, but they wouldn't allow it! They love learning how to code and at our first competition, they qualified to go on to champs and won a "Rising Star" award for the judges seeing great potential in them!

I want to continue to fund our now, extended season with their snacks for practices but also give them a little robot of their own that they can work on at home as well as books that I feel will inspire them as women of color in the mostly male field of coding and STEM!

I hope these gifts inspire them to continue to work in a field that will keep them critical thinkers and could be a game-changer for their families!
