Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are all extraordinary kids! Most of these students reside in a poor, urban area that is grossly underfunded, and, in some areas, lacking even the most basic of needs. Although many of them come from tough neighborhoods and lifestyles, they are strong, smart, and full of life. These are the scientists of tomorrow.
Each of these individuals has a mind for science and a contribution to make to the scientific world.
Their ingenuity is exceptional, and their thirst for learning is unquenchable. I learn more from them than they do from me! These kids are the kinds of kids that inspire innovation. They are the example that leaders should be following and the hope that will fuel the future.
My Project
Students in urban districts often have to walk to school in the morning. Bussing rules often times call for students within a certain radius of the school building to walk to and from school. Many times, these students have to walk in the rain, cold, or snow if their parents are working the mornings and cannot drop them off directly. Students like these need help from teachers and staff to ensure they are warm enough to get to and from school, otherwise sometimes they decide not to show up. If it were you, and you were faced with having to walk in the rain or snow to come to school, sometimes without a coat or sweatshirt to keep you warm, would you even bother to come to school?
To make matters worse, our classroom does not have heat or air conditioning and so I am requesting two space heaters to warm the classroom so that students who arrive after walking in the cold can arrive to a classroom that is warm.
Please consider supporting this project for students who need all the extra warmth they can get! Kids with cold hands can't type or write effectively. Kids with cold bodies are more focused on keeping warm than on keeping their grades up. Kids with cold noses keep their heads down to warm their noses up. Kids that walk in the cold get sick in the cold! Let's keep the students in our school as warm and well-cared for as we possibly can this school year.
