We Are Thirsty for Knowledge!

Help me give my students water bottles and Scholastic magazines! My students need a safe way to drink water throughout the day as they are learning to read and learning about the world around them.

My Students

Teaching in a low-income/high poverty school presents many challenges. My students face many challenges inside and outside the classroom. Though they face so many challenges, I try to keep things in my classroom simple and have a routine that they feel good with.

My students are hard-working, spontaneous, and very creative.

They love to move, talk, read, work with their little hands, and receive lots of positive attention. There are many students in my class who are being raised by a single parent or grandparent, some who don't have a home to go to and receive free lunch and breakfast because of their socioeconomic status. These and other things often prevent my students from being successful in school early on in their educational careers. But once they walk into my classroom I focus on their strengths and we celebrate all their accomplishments no matter how big or small. By doing this they feel empowered and they gain a positive attitude about learning. I am hopeful that through the creative and positive way I run my classroom they will continue along their path learning.

My Project

My students are thirsty throughout the day and it just isn't safe to use the drinking fountain to get drinks. Not all of my students have water bottles they can bring to school. I want to help them get a safe drink of water at school by helping provide them with a fun and easy to use water bottle to help them stay hydrated while they learn to read using the Scholastic magazine!

They are thirsty for not only water, but for knowledge about the world around them!

Scholastic magazines will help them learn sight words, about the world around them, and how to discuss things they learn with others (peers or adults in their lives).
