We Are The World
My students need books that teach them about diversity and multiculturalism. These books will show the similarities of all people and celebrate our differences.
Do you want to be valued, loved and appreciated? My students and I do. We embrace our differences and celebrate our similarities. My students love to hear and read stories about people but we do not have a big enough classroom library of picture books that celebrate all people.
Our school is an applied learning school where students primarily learn through project based and hands-on learning activities.
What better way to learn than through the use of a Social Studies Library that celebrates all people. My students are from low income families and/or English language learners. Some of the students struggle with language but are often able to show understanding when given the opportunity to use pictures and books.
With these books and picture cards, history will come to life. Students who struggle with English will have a pictorial reference for words and or events. Students will also learn about American History and what makes our country unique as well as understand the influences of other cultures on our society. These books celebrate diversity and embrace the multiculturism that is today. Students will feel appreciated, understood and loved through the use of literature that is multicultural.
My students want to understand how they fit into our society and feel that they are valued.
This set of books will show them that we are all alike yet unique and contribute to our society. Multiculturalism is what makes America a wonderful place.
