My students need a new classroom set of world atlases to study world geography.
This project expired on November 25, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
The students at FMS are IB (International Baccalaureate) World students. This means that we focus learning on becoming internationally minded, global citizens. Students study how others live in the world, and become open minded learners. We learn about locations, cultures, and tolerance.
FMS is a diverse school, with many different cultures.
It is important that all students learn about their own personal heritages and cultures.
There is a high percentage of students who live below poverty level, and who qualify for free or reduced lunch services.
My students deserve to have updated materials, and to have equal access to accurate atlases.
7th graders are learning about World Geography, so we use maps to learn every day. Our current classroom atlases are almost 15 years old, and there are inaccuracies in them. They are falling apart, and there are pages missing in them.
As IB (International Baccalaureate) world learners, it is important that the students study the entire world; physical and political geography, how people live/cultures, and how location affects culture.
Basic geography skills, such as how to read a political map, require maps/ atlases with accurate political boundaries and countries. Students will use critical thinking while comparing different types of maps. For example- how does a physical map compare to population map? Why do people tend to live near certain natural resources?
