We Are The World: Teaching Tolerance and Acceptance
My students need these World Culture Boxes, Globes and books to provide multicultural materials to learn about other countries and further develop their understanding of other cultures.
"We are the world, we are the children, we are the ones who make a better day so let's start giving." Tolerance needs to be taught at an early age. Children need to be taught to accept and celebrate differences. I want my students to leave my class with knowledge and love of other cultures.
I need a second job to support what I spend on my classroom.
I LOVE TEACHING!!! I try to buy as much as I can for my classroom to keep it updated. The biggest challenge that I am now facing is having multicultural books and materials to teach my students about the different cultures within our classroom. My school is a large school with over 800 students. We are a large urban school district. I have 22 charismatic 5 and 6 year olds. My students vary not only in age, but also socioeconomically. I have students who are English Language Learners and some who have IEP's. I have students from North America, Central America, South America, Europe and Asia. Some who speak only Spanish and Bengali. It's important for them to learn about each others cultures and learn early on to accept and celebrate differences.
My Project
My students will learn about the seven continents, and the different countries that are represented in our classroom. They will learn tolerance for different cultures. They will learn about how different countries have different traditions, foods, clothing and celebrations. The unit will be called "We Are The World". With these materials my students will be able to see on the globe where countries are, read non-fiction books about different countries, learn facts about them and the seven continents, learn to say hello in several languages and see photos of real people from around the world.
With your donations given to fund this project, my students will learn to celebrate differences.
They will learn about tolerance and about different countries around the world. They will learn about characteristics of non-fiction text. "We are the world, we are the children, we are the ones who make a better day, so let's start giving!"
