I teach music at a nonprofit K-5 charter school. My students are inquisitive, creative and always striving to be the best well-rounded version of themselves. They are constantly looking for new opportunities to learn and they take pride in being active participants in their education. Even though we have a very rigorous STEM based curriculum, our school is open to any and all who want to be a part of our family. Music is my students' chance to explore their more creative side.
My students are enthusiastic learners that are eager to create and express themselves.
I am continually amazed by their drive to succeed in everything they do.
My Project
These xylophones will enrich the lives of almost 700 children throughout our school. Starting as young as kindergarten, they will use them to see and hear the difference between high and low pitches spatially and aurally. Once they have graduated to the upper elementary levels, they will be used to begin exploring improvisation and composition. By giving them a tangible pitched instrument we are creating active musicians. By learning to read and play music, they will also learn a mirage of other non-musical skills as well, such as developing language and reasoning skills, hand-eye coordination and responsible risk-taking.
The xylophones will be used to achieve many things throughout our classroom, but most importantly, they will help to foster a sense of pride and creative thinking.
They will be able to take the concepts we learn in class and transfer them to an actual physical instrument.
