Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are vibrant. My students are energetic. My students are diverse. They are passionate, enduring and have the future at their fingertips. My students contribute to their school and community, but they are also at a disadvantage.
Most of my students come from broken and/or poverty-stricken homes.
The school hosts an over ninety percent population that is on free or reduced-price lunch making us a Title One school. Despite the economic state of many of our students, they show us daily how motivated they are. They want to provide a better life for themselves, and they are working hard to try to get there; they want to develop life skills that will allow them to move forward in life.
My Project
Our swim team has come a long way in a very short period of time. As this season came to its end, we were already looking on to getting ready in the offseason for next year. This year was our second year to have swimming back at our school. In just two years we have seen so much growth. We have student-athletes that have moved on in the offseason as well as students ready to start working on the future. In order to continue to grow in the right direction, we need help.
Help continue to build the legacy of our team!
In order to do so, we need some equipment that will help individuals. This includes Speedo Adult Swim Goggles- Speed Socket 2.0 which constantly needs to be replaced because of the damage chlorinated water has on the goggles. We will also need Contour Swim Paddles Hand and FINIS Pulling Ankle Strap in order to help train the swimmer's hand and leg placements. In order to be able to take our equipment around to practice and meets we will need a Champion Sports Mesh Duffle. We also need a Keter Westwood 150 Gallon Resin Large Deck Box in order to keep the equipment at the pool so that our students are not taking it from place to place and possibly damaging, losing, or forgetting it. Lastly, in order to wait during swim meets, we need Portable Sports Benches to make sure we can sit together as a team as we wait for each swim heat. With this equipment, our team will continue to grow and make a name for itself.
