Most of my students are English Language Learners, some of whom are new refugees. At our school, there are a total of 37 languages spoken, and in my classroom this year I have students speaking 10 different languages! We have great diversity and love celebrating all of the different cultures.
Unfortunately, many of my students also come from low-income households.
Though this may impact their home life, we do our best to make sure it does not affect their life at school. This can be difficult with limited access to resources, which is why your help is so important.
Even though my students might face more challenges, they always come to school eager and ready to learn! We love to have fun learning and exploring in Kindergarten, and I hope you can help!
My Project
My kindergarten students love reading workshop time. Everyone gets to read books first independently and then with a partner. We are currently in our Super Readers Unit. During this unit students learn "super powers" for reading, such as pointer power, book talk power, and partner power. Students each have their own book bin and will need to have books they have chosen that are specifically at their reading level.
I would like to add some non-fiction books to our library to get my students even more excited about reading!
Non-fiction books are highly engaging but sometimes they are difficult to find in easy-to-read formats. I would like to give my students access to these books and I know they will be thrilled when they are able to read them!
