My students need the Brother SE400 Combination Computerized Sewing and 4x4 Embroidery Machine to learn the life skill of sewing and economics by making and selling home sewn items for students and parents.
My students are currently learning economics in the class room, including income, a paycheck, and expenses, rent, water, and electric.
Many of my students are hard workers who live on farms and ranches.They are used to putting in time and effort when needed.
They are always willing to take on a challenge. Our school community is a great place for students to grow and learn. Teachers and staff challenge students to do their best and encourage all students to be advocates for their learning. Living in a rural area, my students have limited access to economic classes due to limited classes.
To help them prepare for future jobs or college courses, I am so excited to bring more real life experience to classroom to enhance my students' learning!
My Project
My students are very excited to start a sewing club for our school and to have results that everyone can share. WE are going to start by making simple items like pillow cases and small blankets. The students would like to make some to sell to continue to buy the fabric and other accessories needed to continue the sewing club. They are then planning on some give away at the sporting events of the school and doing some raffles to bring in money for the local food bank and buying supplies for students who might need them throughout the year. we are excited to start learning how to design and make quilts.
I feel the use of these two sewing machines will bring students a big sense of accomplishment and satisfaction of learning how to help someone as well as learning how to be entrepreneurs.
They will also be learning the economics of running a business and what profit is versus loss.
I feel bringing this into the school will once again bring real world experience while helping students understand the need to help the community and learn to be part of the community.
