Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a ESL Pre-K teacher, so I teach 4 to 5 year olds. My students are at an age where they love to explore. They are eager to learn, and it's important to encourage that exploration at a young age. At this age they get so excited about things they have never seen before, and they thrive with hands on experiences. They dream big, and I never want them to stop. At my school we are the lightning bugs. We say let learning light the way, and that is exactly what I want to do. I want to help light a bright future for my students.
My Project
As I kid I've always loved to explore. Now I want to give that opportunity to my students. With these items, my lesson will be more engaging. Imagine it's your first time learning about the solar system and the teacher pulls out a device and turns it on and nothing happens right away. Then she turns off the light and boom! The ceiling is displaying Earth. There is not one child in that room who won't be engaged in the lesson. Showing different pictures and videos is great but having those physical materials to touch and explore completely changes the engagement of the lesson. Kids learn by doing. I want my science lessons to be fun. I want my student to never stop exploring, to never stop asking question, and to go and declare they are scientists!
