My students need an iPad for interactive games, a karaoke machine, a safe pencil sharpener and staplers, art kits to create, and some baking needs to expand our math skills in a fun way.
These four and five-year-old students come from a high poverty community and school. They come to school to learn, explore, and make friends. It is my responsibility to provide all these opportunities and to create an atmosphere that allows them to use their imaginations to create, explore, and practice problem solving skills. I want their very first year in this school to be an unforgettable year that builds a strong foundation for the rest of their educational careers.
My students come from households where both parents work to make ends meet, homes where grandparents are raising their grandchildren, and single-family homes where they are dropped off at 7 am and picked up at 6pm.
Many of these children don't have luxury homes and households where money is not an issue.
My Project
These resources are going to create fun and safety in the classroom. The stabler and pencil sharpener will allow the independence of these children to do on their own without interrupting me or my worries of them hurting themselves. The karaoke machine allows their tiny voices to be heard when they are sharing with the class, doing the weather in the morning or when they are presenting their projects. They will feel like the true superstars they are. The craft kits will allow them to create something and bring it home to share with family and friends. It will give them the opportunity to work on fine motor skills and sequential directions. The iPad will allow the children to share and learn and play interactive games to their individual skills and academic level. The cupcake supplies will give me the opportunity to include math skills and creativity all into one. What a great way to introduce adding, measurement, colors, temperature, patience, fine motor skills and team work all in one activity that they will get to enjoy at the end with eating. I want to create an atmosphere where the children love coming to school and show that learning is both fun and creative for all.
