Most of my students are from low-income households. Yet despite the obstacles they face, they remain eager learners with a desire to absorb as much as they can from their surroundings. As a teacher, I want to create an enriched environment that provides them with a wide range of opportunities.
They are a bright group of students who look forward to school each day.
Sometimes they do have difficulty in controlling their emotions and managing their behavior. I want them to have the skills needed to recognize and be successful not only in school but also in their everyday life.
My Project
My students do love to read, even the ones with behavior problems. Unfortunately I don’t have many picture books for them to read. The diverse books that I have chosen shall help them learn about being considerate and caring for each other. They will learn about developing empathy and to deal with anger and frustrations. After reading these books I envision many productive discussions about the topic. They will be able to recall their learning and act accordingly, in case they come across a situation that they had read and discussed in classroom.
Picture books are also handy tools to easily teach language arts curriculum, such as reading and writing.
These books will help my kids develop their interest and be strong readers.
