Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
One of the best things about our school is the diversity of the student population. The first language of the majority of my first graders is not English. We have students from all over the world.
Our school is a Title I school where 100% of the students can eat free breakfast and lunch.
My students love to be active while they are learning, and they like to work with each other. I learn something new from them every day!
My Project
Some children come to school having experienced reading favorite books over and over again with an adult. Those experiences help children feel confident as readers and develop valuable reading skills. Many children haven't experienced this joy before they come to school. These predictable books are fun and engaging. Since the text is predictable, all of my students can read along and enjoy the experience of repeated readings. Reading these books together in our class allows kids to start to feel like readers and want to read more.
Shared reading of predictable books with my class will give all of my students opportunities to feel like readers and enjoy fun books!
We will read these books multiple times and do activities that help the children understand the difference between words and sentences. The books will be available all year for the children to reread, developing their confidence and reading fluency.
