My Students
My students just turned three years old. I am piloting a three-year-old half-day program in an inner-city low-income school.
The children are excited and ready to learn.
Most of the students I serve are English Language Learners and will be in a bilingual program.
The mission of this program is to teach children English and sustain their Spanish speaking skills. Starting early will give them a head start on their educational journey. This will enable them to have many opportunities in their futures, but also facilitate educational success.
My Project
My three year old students look forward to coming to school and building puzzles on their own and with their friends. Every day when they go to the literacy or math center, they are looking to see what puzzle is there to challenge them.
Being able to provide a variety of puzzles that enhance a variety of fine motor skills and problem solving skills are essential in early childhood.
This year in particular, my students need a lot of help developing their fine motor skills. Puzzles are proven to develop those skills and the knob puzzles are key in this development.
By holding on to the peg or knob, certain muscles in the hands are used and developed. This development is key for their success in years to come.
