Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We're a very active kindergarten. Students are always on the move to centers and guided reading or math groups to learn the standards we are trying to cover and keep them engaged. We love to use technology in centers and guided groups as well as in our thematic units. I have a classroom with students ranging from kindergarten in abilities below grade level to above. We have a wide range of abilities which need major differentiation. The wonderful thing about my class is that students can work at their ability level. I do not like to limit my students to what is taught at their grade level. On the other hand, I have students that are working at a slower pace. We are working on being good leaders in our community by learning manners and treating others with kindness.
My Project
We do not have a big whole group lesson since my students needs are different. Instead, we do most things in small groups. My students have a reading group meeting each day of the school week. The lessons last about 20 to 30 minutes a day. While I am working with my small group, the other students are doing phonics skill lessons on the computers or doing a center based on our thematic unit which may include a tablet. I would like to add 6 Kindle Fires to the classroom so that I would have enough tablets to use during Guided Reading. I would have my students working on vocabulary and visual book reports using Pic Collage. I would also have them working on phonics in magnetic letters. Students would read and take comprehension quizzes in Raz-Kids. They also may explain their thinking in SeeSaw. These are just a few examples of how I would use them because there are so many tools to be used on the Kindles
The Kindles bring excitement and engagement into our guided reading group.
The Kindles also allow students to work at their pace. The Kindle Fire tablets encourage creativity in which students can choose how they might create projects from books they read. Students can show their learning using apps. They can share their learning with their peers in the guided reading group and get their work sent straight to their parents using the SeeSaw app.
