Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Did you know that the lollipop was invented In New Haven, CT and it was named after a racehorse? My students need to know Connecticut's role in the formation of our young country, but they also should learn about its colorful history, places and people that help form this state.

The students in my school are from low income families and each are eligible for free breakfast and lunch.

The ethnicity of our 4th grade class is mainly Hispanic or African American. We are a Title One school in one of the largest cities in Connecticut. The students maybe from low income families but they each have a high interest in learning. They take pride in their work and do the best they can.

My Project

Many of the students aren't aware of Connecticut's incredible history and it's important role in the shaping of our country. Most Social Studies books are written to cover the nation's involvement of development of our country. I would like the students to know and understand our state's history and be proud of its role from the very beginning. I would like the students to learn about its own special geography, history, government, people and culture. To learn how Connecticut started and where it might go in the future. What the future of Connecticut holds for the students and how they might be able to change for the better. With these books, they would be able to learn not only the historical side of the state, but to learn of interesting starts to businesses and people. They will understand that their future starts with a dream. The final activity after learning about Connecticut is a field trip to the Mystic Seaport, a working, interactive colonial seaport.

Its extremely important to learn about the history of our state, not only is it part of our curriculum, but knowing about the past only enhances the future.

To appreciate what we all have, we must learn of the humble beginnings and what people before us gave up to improve their lives and the lives of generations that follow.
