We Are Math Maniacs!

Help me give my students the love of learning by using real world objects, visual aids on the chart stand, and a hands-on approach using manipulatives to learn math!

My Students

Our school is located in Oklahoma in a low to middle-class neighborhood. I have been teaching for 24 years. This is my 5th year to teach third grade! I have to say, my class is an amazing group of eager learners!

Third graders are inquisitive and crave knowledge while possessing an intense level of enthusiasm.

It is truly my favorite age group to teach. They are willing to learn absolutely anything! Want to learn a new language today? Sure! How about how to square dance? Okay! Third graders love to socialize and enjoy working in groups just as much as they need solitary practice to reinforce new skills learned. Our school day includes a lot of kinesthetic learning games, as well as quiet, independent work time.

My Project

These materials will enhance my students' interpersonal skills such as communication, collaboration, teamwork, and perspective, as well as helping them be able to solve real-world problems with a hands-on approach.

My project will provide concrete math manipulatives to help my students practice in a small group, with a partner, or independently.

These concrete objects will include but not be limited to, dominoes, math sticks, flash cards, and board games to play. My students will be building multiplication fluency while also reinforcing the concepts of time, fractions, and graphing by utilizing the fraction magnets, student clocks, and magnetic graph paper.

Organizing ourselves and become more independent in our daily learning is also a very important part of third grade. We hope to accomplish more order with the help of the privacy partitions, chart stand for easy view of objectives listed, a classroom timer , and various other organizational tools.
