We Are Interested in Ellis Island
My students need books including Letters from Rifka, Forgotten Ellis Island, and The Orphan at Ellis Island that will help us learn about Ellis Island.
“Remember, remember always, that all of us, and you and I especially, are descended from immigrants and revolutionists.” ― Franklin D. Roosevelt
More than 80% of my students qualify for free or reduced priced lunch.
They are reading significantly below grade level and struggle with reading comprehension skills, such as making connections to the text, making inferences about the text, and supporting details.
My students will use the reading materials to increase their knowledge of Ellis Island and immigration. Our class is an intervention history class where students read nonfiction text daily. We are trying to increase our reading levels as well as reading comprehension and literacy skills.
This will make a difference to my class because my students will be able to have multiple resources at their fingertips.
My students will have the nonfiction books to help them understand immigration and what people had to go through. Also, my students will be able to read historical fiction novels that will be relatable to them, so they are able to fully understand.
