My Students
My school services a diverse population of students that includes 60% of English Language Learners. The kindergarten students that I work with come from a variety of social backgrounds that can often times present social-emotional challenges in and out of the classroom. As their teacher, I want to provide enriching learning opportunities that help build academic and social skills. These young students are eager to learn and assimilate in the world of education and they look forward to coming to school every day!
My Project
If you have ever read an Elephant and Piggie book to a child then you know that these stories are captivating, engaging and just downright fun for learners of all ages! With these materials, I will be able to provide an author study reading unit for my young learners that is accessible and engaging.
These cute stories are funny, decodable and predictable!
The two main characters Gerald and Piggie are best friends who find themselves in several situations that strengths their bond as well as teaches them about compassion, empathy, respect, and honesty. Young readers love reading these stories because the illustrations are fun and the text is highly decodable and filled with everyday high-frequency words.
