Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Technology is now the lifeline, the heartbeat of the modern classroom. And although I have chrome books and equipment in my classroom I lack the ability to GAMIFY my content. Being an English teacher in a highly urbanized suburb of Los Angeles where students sometimes see me more than their own parents - I look to find different ways to excite my students' learning. According to Scott Hebert on TedXUAlberta "when we think about education and we think about investment they don't go hand in hand. When you think about investment you want something that is dynamic, changing, adapting with the times - and the you get education that may be the most static stagnant thing that exists that is accepted".
Many of my students lack support at home, lack confidence, and most importantly they lack hope for their own future.
My goal is to combine technology and collaboration to spark life. With the materials I would be able to make "stations" so students can move around, work in different environments and bring their Chromebook around with them. Clipboards and rugs will be used to create a comforting atmosphere to support student creativity; just like the Google offices.
My Project
Technology is used almost every week in my class, but what students often do not get the chance to do is to together, past the screens. This will help inspire innovation and creativity.
The right to move around is similar to the diaspora of people as they move from one home to another.
Chromebook and iPads make it very hard for teachers and students to work pass the glowing black mirror. The use of clipboards will help me facilitate more community involved activities in my classroom. In addition some places in my classroom might allow students to work in small groups or big groups. The carpet will allow students to sit or lay on the floor as the work.
