This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In my classroom, my students have very diverse needs. I teach in an urban district where I work with many English Language Learners, children with disabilities, and those with communication delays. I typically see 12-15 children a day in small groups to provide speech and language services.
All of the students I service have speech and language delays and communication disorders.
My students live in an urban setting with a high percentage being economically disadvantaged. They display positive attitudes and work hard towards their goals in the speech and language classroom.
My Project
My students often have difficulty being able to focus their attention on different tasks they complete in the speech therapy room due to their disabilities. Many of my students are diagnosed with ADD and ADHD or like to fidget with any items used in the therapy sessions. They have difficulty channeling their energy into activities to practice improving their speech skills. The stability balls would enable them to be more focused and attentive when working on their speech and language goals, as research has shown.
By donating to this project, my students will improve their ability to be able to focus better in the classroom and to be able to be attentive in order to improve speech and language skills.
Many of my students often present with more than just a speech and language delay, so they are trying to overcome many challenges that they face daily.
