I have a beautiful, diverse class of students who speak a variety of languages and encompass different levels of educational ability. My students are kind, vibrant, and eager to learn.
My students are thoroughly engaged and eager to learn when technology, accompanied by flexible seating, is being used.
They are proud to present their work to the entire class, and they are on their way to becoming productive, tech-savvy members of our society.
With the use of technology in my classroom, the work comes alive and learning takes on new meaning. Flexible seating allows them to further engage their senses which helps to focus on their work.
My Project
My students would really benefit from a new document camera. I have an iPad which would fit well with a new document stand accompanied by an Apple TV. With this technology, I can bring the lessons to life and use it to highlight certain important pieces of literature and other portions of text that may be found it in a student textbook.
While they use this aforementioned technology to take notes in class, they are able sit anywhere they like in a flexible seating option.
This has cut down on classroom fidgeting and has increased their attention beyond measure. However, we have very few options at this point. In addition, flexible seating gives the student a comfortable place to sit and separate themselves from a typical student desk which is often times the wrong size for them. The variety of seating options that I have chosen, such as a wobble stool, rubber band chair, lap desks, and surf style floor desks, will help to expand our flexible seating so that it may reach more students in a given day.
Another benefit of flexible seating in my room, based on personal experience, is that each student feels that they have ownership in choice when they choose their location for the week. They learn to be responsible and make good decisions so that they can stay where they choose.
Overall, this combination of technology and flexible seating will help to create a beneficial and unique learning environment for our future leaders!
