My Students

My third grade class is like a puzzle. When one student is missing, we are incomplete. We begin each day with a "welcome chant" and end each day with a "wish you well" ritual to make every child feel a part of our classroom family.

I have the BEST students (I suppose I'm a little biased)!

All of my students occupy a low socioeconomic background and receive free/reduced lunch. Despite their undependable home lives, they are hard working students in the right kind of environment. They crave a classroom atmosphere that provides safety, unity, and love in order for academics to happen.

My Project

A carpet area will help transform our classroom into a calm and cozy safe haven. I have tried to do whole group interactions on the floor; however, many children would rather stay in their desks away from the unfriendly (stained/ripped) classroom carpet (it is 25 plus years old). A new carpet will bring us together for family meetings, intimate instruction, and a safe place in our classroom!

Instead of referring to the carpet as "carpet time," we will call it "family time." These children will finally get the right kind of attention as a classroom community.

Their minds will be able to be free to reach their full potential!
