Engaged, eager, enthusiastic, these are three words that I would use to describe the students at my school site. These students are engaged in their learning and will use all the resources available to them to gain a new and deeper understanding of a topic of civil enginneering, building, designing and redesigning.
"What are we doing in science lab today, Mr. N?"
"Are we going to be enginners?"
"What are we going to create today?"
These are just a few of the quotes that are illustrations of how eager my students are to learn. As for their enthusiasm, there just does not seem to be the right word for how excited and thrilled these students are when it comes to learning new topics and ideas. The smiles on their faces and the pride in their hearts when they complete a project is just beyond words.
Building, designing and creating are all part of the engineering process. Using Legos to create new inventions is amazing. These amazing toys allow the students flexibility to create, imagine and recreate their designs with ease and simplicity.
Our end of year project for engineering will be to design, plan and build a city with Legos!
Using Legos is more than a few houses. They have to think about what every city needs, as well as what most residents will want. They’ll have to make room for roads, trees, sidewalks, and all those other elements of city planning they probably take for granted every day without considering the fact that someone had to plan and build them. With Legos they have the equipment to complete this fun task.
