My students come to school every day ready and eager to learn. How can you study a topic with limited resources? I want them to have lifetime experiences that they will remember forever. I believe the more engaged my students are the better outcomes they will have. I need to prepare them for their future.
Many nations are represented in my classroom.
I teach at a Title I school in Brooklyn where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. The city does not fund our classroom with the necessary materials to support the curriculum. My students love to participate in S.T.E.A.M. related projects. The lack of supplies is frustrating to my students and to me as well. I teach them you get what you get and don't be upset. This is a difficult concept for third graders.
My students are excited to learn and enjoy hands-on learning experiences.
My Project
My students love to be engaged through hands on learning experiences. This is a great way to integrate the science curriculum and the idea that all of us can be engineers. They love to be challenged by creating and building things. I have collected numerous supplies throughout the year but I never have enough for my entire class to create their own project.
Since they constantly work in groups they have nothing to bring home and discuss their experiences at home with their families.
I alternate who brings home the projects. My students have learned you get what you get and don't be upset. However, that is a hard concept for third graders. We love learning through STEAM.
